Now for our artist spotlight of November, the ever-talented Danesh Mohiuddin! Danesh was born in Hyderabad, India, on Diwali, with firecrackers so loud that his parents decided to move to a quieter Dubai, where he became an avid reader of Mad Magazine, Asterix, and Marvel Comics. After moving to Toronto, he attended the University of Toronto and then Sheridan College and landed a job in advertising.
He has been working, creating editorial illustrations for Saatchi and Saatchi, TD BANK and Scholastic. He lives with his family in Valencia, Spain, creating children's books and comics. You may best recognize Danesh from his books Mummy & Me: A Monsters Tale, Princess Pru and the Switcheroo and 8 Tiny Reindeer.
What is your favourite word, and why?
I like the word 'crunch', it sounds like what it is! It's a fun action sound effect in comics, and it's the sound of eating chips, which I love! I also like the phrase 'crunch time' in sports or in any other situation, that's when you really see what you're made of!
What is your least favourite word, and why?
I really hate the two words 'same old'. It's the worst way to answer any question. It's not something to be proud of! Same old! And it's even more annoying when young people answer a question that way. Get up and do something new for goodness sake!
What turns you off creatively?
I get turned off if a client tries to solve the creative problem for me, rather than letting me do the creative thinking! I like conceptual thinking and coming up with ideas, that's the best part of my job.
What profession other than your would you like to attempt?
I definitely would love to be an athlete. I love sports, I love to travel, and I would love any excuse to stay in shape. Also, I think I would be really good in crunch time.
What's your favourite creator?
That's an impossible question to answer with just one name! There are so many. To name one at this moment, I would say Charles Addams (cartoonist for the new yorker, and creator of the Addams family)
Any future projects that you're excited about?
I'm excited about my short comic contributions to RAID 5 and 6. I'm working with two really great writers, and we've come up with some really fun stuff that I can't wait for the world to see.
Tell us a bit about Spain.
There are many things to love about Spain, but the things I love the most are the culture and the history. The people are warm and friendly, and there are ancient stories at every corner. I'm a big history buff, so this suits me really well.

It’s been a busy year here at RAID — especially this fall, as we’ve launched numerous crowdfunding projects featuring a plethora of talented creators. As mentioned above — we have our current BLACKMOUTH campaign ending this week, but there is also AARDEHN: AWAKENING, a cyberpunk prose/graphic novel by S.M. Carter and Eric Vedder, plus volumes 5 & 6 of our RAID Anthologies: BARADA & NIKTO which ended recently.
HOWEVER, all the campaigns are still active for those who may have missed them — so you can still snag yourself a copy of these books. To make things even easier, we are offering consolidated shipping on the campaign, giving you more for less!
Till next time dear friends,
The RAID Team.
