It’s COMIC COMPS CON ‘24 at RAID!
With creators Vita Ayala, Mike Del Mundo, Ray Fawkes, Jason Loo, Ryan North, Ramón Pérez, Marcus, Chip Zdarsky, Jim Zub, and (potentially) some surprise guests!
We’re excited to announce that we’ll be hosting the first ever COMIC COMPS CON ‘24 at the RAID Gallery & Cafe, with creators such as Vita Ayala (New Mutants, Submerged), Mike Del Mundo (Thor, Avengers), Ray Fawkes (Vampirella, Constantine), Jason Loo (Werewolf By Night, Dazzler), Ryan North (Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Fantastic Four), Ramón Pérez (Stillwater, Tale of Sand), Marcus To (X-Force, Time Waits), Chip Zdarsky (Batman, Sex Criminal), and Jim Zub (Dungeons & Dragons, Conan).
What’s a COMIC COMP CON you ask?
As creators in the comic industry, publishers will send you COMPlimentary copies of COMICs you’ve worked on — these will be regular issues, along with variants of said issues sporting unique limited edition covers. While a lovely and welcome gesture, these comps can quickly pile up — eating up vast storage space. So with the guidance of Chip Zdarsky, who has WAY TOO MANY comps, COMIC COMPS CON was born?
Why at RAID — well, not only is Chip one of the original founders of RAID — but he’s friends with many of its members. Most importantly it’s not too far from where he lives, and with a little bullying, he got the space for free!
Which makes it FREE for all to attend!
With complimentary comic copies for sale at a low price and creator signings, this is a truly unique one-day convention you’ll want to be here for. Meet the creators, have them sign books, hell — some may even be doing sketches! Plus, a CGC representative will also be on site — should any buyers want their books witnessed, and slabbed!
Good ol’ Chip Zdarsky, the genius behind COMPS CON ‘24 while riffling through the boxes of comp comics he’s bringing to this wonderful one-day event, found a very limited copy of a STAR WARS cover he illustrated featuring the, uh, beloved character Jaxxon. A fun cover where Chip put his “Interpretive Illustration” degree to good use making the stairs carrots. We say that’s worth the price of his education alone.
Marvel decided to put out a 1:4999 black & white variant of Chip’s STAR WARS cover — and he still has one;
For COMIC COMPS CON ‘ 24, Chip is going to raffle this bad boy off and donate the proceeds to Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières. So, you could get a weird comic AND support people doing good work!
We hope you can make it out and join us on December 14 from 10 AM - 5 PM at the RAID Gallery & Cafe, 1720 Queen St West — snag some comics, and enjoy our gallery exhibit, all while sipping a coffee or hot cocoa on a chill Saturday afternoon :)
Till next time dear friends,
The RAID Team.
